Cold sores

Cold sores are small blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) and often start with a tingling, itching or burning sensation around your mouth, which later develops into fluid-filled sores, particularly on the edges of the lower lip. It can be triggered by various factors such as stress, cold, fever, low immunity and menstruation. The supplement Lysine, an amino acid, can suppress the virus.

Nina's Health Protocol:

  • Support your immune system and potentially reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks. Include lysine-rich foods such as legumes (beans, lentils), fish, poultry, dairy products (especially cheese and yogurt), and quinoa in your diet.
  • Zinc is important for immune function and may help reduce the duration of cold sore outbreaks.
  • Avoid Arginine-Rich Foods.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, support overall health, and promote skin health.
  • While not directly related to diet, managing stress levels is important as stress can trigger or worsen cold sore outbreaks.
  • Practice stress management techniques.
