Common Cold
Everyone will catch several colds throughout the course of a lifetime. The common cold is caused by viruses and is characterised by a runny nose, coughing, watery eyes and hoarseness. If there is also fever and body aches, it may be termed as flu. Resistance to colds and flu is measured by the body’s own defence mechanism – our immune system. Mental wellbeing and physical health both play an important role in boosting our immunity.
A cold is a contagious viral disease that infects the soft lining (mucous membrane) of the nose. There are more than 100 different viruses that can result in a cold and the characteristic symptom of the common cold is a runny nose, with other symptoms including a sore throat, sneezing, headache, coughing, and high temperature.
